On 3 December, Dawn reported that the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore submitted a report to the district administration committee and said that several environmental officers were involved in leaking information to factory owners before the district administration’s raids with regard to smog production. The administration has taken steps to close the units after the patwaris delegation’s inspection. Eight anti-smog squads were assigned to close the factories that cause smog. To reduce the carbon emissions from the vehicles and smog coming from the traffic, police and civic agencies have increased the team's number to inspect the vehicles releasing smoke massively. The lack of instruments in controlling smog in the factories also leads to the rise of smog. Stricter actions are in action as the pollution caused by smog and its effects are increasing alarmingly.
Police launch operation to address the smog issue
The traffic police launched a massive operation against heavy transport entering the city without fitness certificates. These vehicles have become a major source of air pollution, particularly smog, in the city that was at the top of the world for its Air Quality Index (AQI) during the last couple of weeks. The traffic police department has given 5 December as the deadline for such vehicles for getting certified by relevant authorities. The persistent dry weather along with the fog will continue for a few days more. The pollution and the smog followed by climate change resulted in the increasing intensity of cold dry conditions throughout the day.
